Our Cambridge Curriculum

Cambridge Secondary curriculum is divided into three (3) strands of two (2) years each. That is two (2) years of Cambridge checkpoint which is covered in year 8 to year 9, Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education (IGCSE) covered in year 10 and year 11, and Cambridge A Level covered in year 12 and year 13.

Year 8 and Year 9: Cambridge Lower Secondary

Students in Years 8 and 9 follow the Cambridge Secondary 1 Curriculum.  This is a broad curriculum which provides a firm foundation for the start of Cambridge International General Certificate of Secondary Education also known as Cambridge Secondary 2. The subjects studied at this level are: First Language English, Mathematics, Science, French, History, Geography, I.C.T, Music, Biblical Studies, Personal, Social and Health Education (PSHE), Art and Physical Education.

Currently students are internally assessed through formative and summative assessments using assignments, research, presentations, projects, tests throughout the term and end of termly exams. At the end of year 9 the learners take examinations that mark the end of the lower secondary programme (Y9).

Years 10 and 11:International General Certificate of Secondary Education

Students in Years 10 and 11 do the International General Certificate of Secondary Education (I.G.C.S.E) programme. At this level students must take a minimum of seven (7) subjects to a   maximum of nine (9) subjects. The following are four (4) compulsory subjects: First Language English, Mathematics, French and Biology.

The students can choose between three (3) to five (5) other subjects from the following available options: Art, I.C.T, Business Studies, Physics, Music, Literature in English, History and Geography. Examinations are externally assessed by Cambridge International Education and are taken in Oct/Nov series in Year 11 and students must obtain a minimum grade of ‘C’ in order to take the subject in Year 12. This examination will lead to an award of IGCSE.

Year 12-13 AS/A Level

Students in Year 12 (AS) and 13 (A Level) take 3 to 4 subjects and in addition take General paper which is compulsory. Subjects currently offered are: English Language, English Literature, General Paper, Mathematics, History, Biology, Chemistry, Physics, I.T, Business Studies, Economics, French and Art.

Externally assessed A Level examinations are taken in Oct/Nov series at the end of Year 13. This will lead to an award of General Certificate of Education (GCE). Further information about the University of Cambridge programmes can be found at https://www.cambridgeinternational.org/
