Admissions Policy

Admission Requirements

EIA (Empower International Academy) is a Christian school, and we ask that our families share our faith and agree to their children participating in all activities that reflect our Christian ethos.

Admission is not determined by academic level alone but the suitability of the school for the student and our ability to meet each student’s needs.

All students and their families are required to actively support the Vision, Mission, and values of the school.

The language of instruction is English. We require that students have attained at least Division One or Two in their Primary Leaving Exams or the equivalent. If a student has not completed any external exams prior to admission, their academic ability and level will be assessed through their school reports, internal exam results and our own literacy and numeracy assessments that are taken by every student .

Should a student’s performance in the assessments be so low as to make it difficult for the school to meet the student’s needs with the services available, the student will not be admitted. This decision will be based on the recommendation of the Head of School.

Admissions are accepted for the beginning of an academic year in Years 8, 9, 10 and 12 however the Board has the discretion to admit during the year and in Years 11 and 13 in exceptional circumstances. Our maximum class size is 25 students.

Should a year group be full, applicants will be placed on a waiting list.  Priority will be given to siblings of existing students. The Board reserves the right to prioritize a specific student in exceptional circumstances.

Application Procedure

  • Following completion of our application form and payment of the application fee, the family meets with the Head of School, the student attends a shadow day, completes an assessment in numeracy and literacy, and is interviewed by the Head of School.
  • A Confidential Report Form is sent to the student’s previous school requesting details of the current support given to the student. Parental permission will be sought but the information obtained will not be shared with them.
  •  Parents are asked to identify any known needs e.g. dietary/medical/learning needs, on the enrolment form. A failure to disclose relevant information may lead to the offer of enrolment being retracted.
  • In the event of physical disability, a risk assessment is carried out to ensure that the school is not putting a student at risk by admitting them. Every effort to enable access would be made but the school reserves the right not to admit a student if the cost of creating the needed access is beyond the reach of the school.

Appeal Process

We reserve the right to refuse admission to a student, however should a parent or guardian wish to appeal an enrolment decision, they can write an email or letter giving full details of the reasons for appeal, to the Head of School, for consideration by the Board.
